I found it interesting that Samuel was “ministering to the Lord” (3:1) before he even knew the Lord (3:7). It was reinforced to me that knowing about God is so much different than knowing Him. Now, Samuel was just a young boy, but once again, we are reminded of the importance of a personal relationship with God. It would be like me researching information about my wife, Jill, yet never stopping to simply talk to her. Research and information are important but only if it accompanies a personal connection. Even in service for God, if I get so busy that we never talk, I am going to miss it big time.
Be inspired by Moses’ relationship and Jesus’ prayer for
relationship.
Exodus 33:13 Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found
favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may
find favor in Your sight.
17 The Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of
which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known
you by name.”
John 17:3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the
only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
James 4: 7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he
will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse
your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
